You know those rooms you see in House & Home and wish you could transport yourself to instantly, even just for a day?
That’s exactly the kind of space I have for you this week.
Now, I’m not tooting my own horn here — most of the homes we design are for a very specific couple or family, which means each space is highly personal to them. Today’s Calgary foothills home, however, was designed as a multi-generational family home and total crowd pleaser, so…
I’m in! Care to join me?
QUICK GOALS RECAP:
Sadly, the Before photos have mysteriously vanished (why, DropBox, why?) but believe me when I say it was a sight to behold. Oak everywhere, awkward floor plans, a sunken living room, a lack of lighting… the list goes on.

For the entryway, living room, and family room, we needed to…
• Open up the dark, closed-off entryway
• Completely redesign the floor plan and flow between rooms… everywhere
• Bring more natural light into the space (and say “adios” to an awkward sunroom)
• Create an elegant, comfortable design that still feels cosy and intimate
Now, let’s take a tour…
ENTRYWAY & LIVING ROOM: BRIGHT, ELEGANT & COSY

Wow factor right from the doorway! We remodeled this space to widen the entryway and create a stunning first impression that would match the rest of the home.
To keep this narrow space bright, we selected warm-toned double doors with frosted glass (hello, natural sunlight) and light-coloured walls. Minimal accents of black (doors, sexy svelte railing) and the lantern chandelier add the perfect touch of grandeur. In the living room, we wanted to create a space that would feel cosy yet luxurious, inviting yet elegant. For the wow factor… a Caesarstone Quartz fireplace surround that dreams are made of. Soft textiles and warm tones are sure to make friends and family scoot a little closer, no matter the season.

And how about those windows? Now let’s take a trip downstairs to the family room…
OPEN CONCEPT FAMILY ROOM

To fix this basement family room’s awkward layout, we opened it up and created different zones: an entertainment area, a dining area and wet bar, and a teen/tween hangout. We created a dining and hangout area, complete with wine fridge, wet bar, and a darn good view. I foresee only good times here. This basement is perfect for any family’s cosy, classy Calgary winter. And guess what’s hiding behind the built-in shelving over on the left?
Storage! I know, can you ever have too much storage?
ENVY-INDUCING WINE CELLAR

If you follow us on Instagram, you’ve seen this wine cellar before… but I think it’s about 10x more enviable once you know it belongs to this mountain house of dreams.
Backstory: LBI fought hard for this wine room and everyone is so glad we did!
Can’t resist a designer moment here… notice how the herringbone flooring subtly mimics the pattern of the wine shelving and brings the design together?? SWOON.
Alright, that’s a wrap for this week, but this house has much more to show you upstairs… some bedrooms, several bathrooms, a yoga room, even a pet spa!
…okay, it’s a laundry room, not a pet spa, but we did give Fido the perfect place to bathe. 😉
See you next week,
