It’s no secret, LBI loves art. You can see the proof in our designs!
Here are two rooms with very different vibes, and the art helps set the mood in each. In fact, I’d go so far to say that art is one of the most underrated ways to create an intentional feeling in your space.
So how do you start an art collection you love?
First, know that finding art you love takes time — that’s why it’s called a “collection” and not a “splurge.”
Second, follow our guidelines here… and enjoy some of the art from our projects throughout!
Step 1 | Explore & Experiment
Traditional landscape oil with contemporary mixed medium abstract? Figurative drawing with photography? Anything goes.
If you’re not sure what you like, but you know what you don’t like, that’s just as good of a place to start. Now, go look at everything else.
Step 2 | Go with Your Gut
Choosing the right piece of art is a lot like finding the right man… when you know, you know! Art is a visceral response for most people. It’s a feeling, not something you can necessarily explain.
If you love it, it’s never wrong.
Step 3 | Mix It Up
Your home doesn’t have to be a photo-only zone. Mixing the type of art you love is a great way to create diversity and interest in your space.
Keep your eye out for oil paintings, photography, water-colour, mixed media, sculpture, digital art, drawings.
Step 4 | Commission What You Want
Can’t find what you love or need a specific size? Commission one made just for you!
Step 5 | Have Fun!
Finding art isn’t work, and you don’t need that perfect piece right this very second — so have a little fun with it!
Next week, I’m going to be sharing some great places where you can find art in Calgary, Alberta and beyond. Whether you’re nabbing wine at an art exhibit or swilling it computer-side in your jammies… Keep. It. Fun.
And you will succeed.
That’s it for today, but check back here next week for a list of our favourite galleries and artist hotspots. It promises to be a fun and colorful post!
